Mars The Final Day is the first book in the Legacy of the Red Planet Series by J.R. Austin, a sci-fi that combines history and myth with science to tell the story of Ikara. The life of Ikara has been modeled around the Grand Cycle, the very source and summit of its spiritual life. And now, according to the GenSeer Marador, it is in danger, so Marador delivers a coded message to the one person who stands a chance of wielding the power and the influence that could save his people and the planet. But there is no time because the Candlefall will dramatically alter the life of Ikara. Jast Rathael, the elder Speaker for Whycheral, the last Ikaran and a lowly born but ambitious and clever man, has to do everything to save Ikara. The first ride into the series is breathtaking and electrifying!
As the first book in a series, Mars The Final Day is a brilliant introduction, a unique story told with a clear and strong voice. There is a lot to love in J.R. Austin’s writing. The prose is beautiful and the author writes with unusual confidence. There is a mix of everything - from music to culture, from philosophy to spirituality, and science to history in this epic tale, and one can imagine what it would be like seeing it on the big screen. The characters are monumental, each suffused with great energy and sculpted to be a unique symbol of life. Yes, I loved the symbolism, the poetic use of language, the reflective style of the author that carries both depth and insight. Concepts like the Grand Cycle and names like Ikara – which sounds so poetic to the ears – the GenSeers and many others are succinct pointers to a bubbling imagination. You don’t need to be a fan of sci-fi to love this book because it carries deep meanings and powerful currents of insight that will leave the reader brooding for a long time after a satisfying read.

Mars The Final Day Legacy of the Red Planet Book 1 eBook JR Austin
I am a big fan of Mars but only a moderate Sci Fi reader. I read the intro and it had a Native American feel to it so I decided to buy it. The book is well written and also conveys a deeper message to the reader beyond the basic sci fi fantasy novel. I wanted to give it 4.5 stars, so I gave it 5 since this appears to be a new author and the writing is far superior to even most seasoned novelists except in one area. I want to feel more attached to the characters in the book and some of them lack depth though I think Kael was developed very well as was Jast two of the main characters. The book is very similar in feel to Clan of the Cave Bear, but clearly a different story. The ending for this first book was done well and left me anticipating the next release. I found the website for the author and gave him my feedback. He was very gracious and said that he appreciates input from the public on his work. I think because the author is articulate, is open to criticism and his work had less than a handful of typos instead of the millions you see among new authors we might have a winner here.Product details

Mars The Final Day Legacy of the Red Planet Book 1 eBook JR Austin Reviews
Great job of establishing and maintaining the storyline. The writing was superb; tracking through the complex characterizations had to be tough. I just had a couple of issues that, to me, made it good rather than great the first 60% of the book was really boring; then it took off and I didn't want to put it down. The other thing was a clash of technology vs common sense, (they improved tech skills to the point of becoming space faring, but they still thought singing alone cured major illness and injury)? The ending seemed to indicate a sequel coming soon; I do hope so, I will certainly buy it. Recommend highly; thank you
Excellent book
I read very little Si-fi, so didn't know what to expect, but found his book to be very interesting. Once all the characters were established it was hard to put down. When I reached the end of the book, I wasn't ready for it to end. Looking forward to the next installment. Great job for a first book.
This has been a wonderful journey into a creative world, I read this from start to finish in one night, WOW, what a story. I highly recomend this to any Sci-Fi lover that enjoys a deep philosophical message. Looking forward to the next installment.
I read it almost straight through in a few hours kept my interest and can't wait to read more a great mix of ideas akin to some philosophies in the undercurrents of my all time favorite Avatar. Moves fluidly. Reminds me of some aspects of Dune series. Loved it. Barbara
I can't wait until December 2016 when the second book comes out. It was very imaginative and the author gave us a good backdrop given all the information we have learned about Mars in recent years. Gives a very good basis about a possibility of the origin of the human species. One you pick it up you don't want to put it down, I read it in a day.
This great book about Ikara (Mars). It is thoughtfully written and thought provoking. How has our world changed with nearly unlimited energy? Have we Givin up our birthright? Are following the path of Ikara?
The world of Ikara is a colorful world full of diverse peoples. J. R. Austin did a great job crafting this world. It has depth of history, and asks us deep questions about ourselves and nature. It reminded me alot of Dune messiah by Frank Herbert in that it has a philosophical message to it.
It is an easy read, and has a compelling storyline. At 140 pages or so it is quick, but you get a full story. It's refreshing to read a good book that is not 1000+ pages occasionally . It's easier on the eyes.
It begins slow, but as you read you are able to more fully involve yourself in their world. I enjoyed the history, and the philosophy. My biggest criticism is I feel there could be more showing of the story through more charecter interaction. Overall this is a good book. I'll buy more of this authors books, they are a wonderful story teller.
I'm looking forward to the seemingly coming sequel.
